READ AN OP-ED piece on this the other day, and today it was in the LA Times again. The Supervisors of LA County have placed restrictions on the venerable taco truck, a Angeleno institution. Seems that they're (the supervisors, and the supporting brick and mortar restaurants) tired of the trucks not having the same rules to play by. Now, on unincorporated county land (like East LA) the trucks can't camp out each night- they have to move every hour.
This move has generated a huge outcry- both for and against the ban. Pro-ban positions seem steeped in minuteman speak (from observing the comments on the LA Times article and blog), with a few anti-taco truck views that are more balanced. By far though, the peoples voice seems to be to save the taco trucks. Some souls even went as far to start a website with a petition (cleverly titled "save our taco trucks").
The guys who started "save out taco trucks" even called for a city wide taco truck night on May 1st, 2008- Tonight. Kristy and I headed down to our local one (Mary's Tacos. Which used to be Taco Quick... where did they go?) in solidarity. I had the carne asada... what did you have? Save your trucks!!
Ought to be interesting to see where this goes...

PS in the interest on copyright violations, I ripped the taco truck image from the LA Times article. It's a beautiful image by Robert Gauthier for the Los Angeles Times. Nice Shot Robert. Thanks.

Thanks for reminding people that "Carne Asada is NOT a Crime!" There's nuthin' like the cilantro/onion breath in the morning, leftover from some great late night tacos....
I like fighting the man.
